The Midwest Research Computing and Data Consortium (MWRCD) is the Midwestern hub of research computing and data infrastructure professionals, and its purpose is to build a community among cyberinfrastructure professionals who share a strong regional identity in order to share information, solve problems, and advocate for important community-driven needs. At this CaRCC Emerging Centers call, the consortium hopes to share information with the broader community about our activities and engage with emerging centers to better understand needs and desires for the future. We ask: what can a regional consortium do for you?

Kickstarting Your RCD Systems-Facing Career
Note: This month’s call will take place on the 4th Thursday, June 26th, in light of the Juneteenth holiday falling on our usual call date.
This session will explore avenues for finding success in systems-focused Research Computing and Data (RCD) roles. Through sharing personal stories and practical guidance, this presentation will touch on the diverse ways that one can navigate a career in high performance computing, storage, and research infrastructure operations. The talk will provide an overview of typical systems-focused journeys from professionals who have started and grown into impactful roles managing and supporting research computing systems.
