Gateways 2026 — September 9–11 in Washington, D.C.. Gateways is the annual conference of the science gateway and cyberinfrastructure community, bringing together researchers, developers, and educators to share advances in tools, platforms, and workflows that broaden access to computational resources — including NAIRR Pilot resources. NSF State & Regional AI Infrastructure Hubs Webinar Series — Session 2 | September 2, 3–4 p.m. ET. Free. The NSF State and Regional AI Infrastructure Hubs program aims to expand access to computing resources needed for AI-enabled scientific discovery and strengthen research, education, and workforce development at institutions of higher education. This second session features technology and philanthropy organizations that have offered support to prospective bidders, plus state-based breakout rooms to help attendees identify collaborators in their region. Tutorial: Looping the AI Lifecycle — Automated Training and LLM-Driven Evaluation via Tapis v3 and NAIRR Vista System | September 11, 1–4 p.m. ET. Free. Led by the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as part of the Gateways 2026 Conference, this virtual tutorial provides a hands-on introduction to reproducible machine learning workflows using the Tapis v3 platform and NAIRR resource TACC Vista. Participants will learn to orchestrate automated model training and LLM-driven evaluations on distributed computational resources, manage infrastructure through the Tapis API and UI, and leverage Tapis core capabilities — including automated training jobs and FlexServ for LLM inferencing — to build distributed, reproducible scientific AI workflows. Internet2 CLASS: Securing AI — Governance, Threat Protection, and Responsible AI on Azure | September 15, 12–5 p.m. ET. This workshop provides a practical framework for implementing AI securely at scale, covering Zero Trust principles for AI systems, governance and control mechanisms for AI agents, and emerging threat identification and mitigation. Topics include real-world architectures, threat scenarios, monitoring approaches, and hands-on red teaming techniques leveraging Microsoft Azure AI security and governance capabilities. Internet2 CLASS: AWS Research Troubleshooting | September 23–24, 1–5 p.m. ET each day. Designed for researchers and research computing professionals who inherit cloud environments or encounter problems they weren’t trained to solve, this two-day workshop addresses the most common issues in research cloud environments: debugging IAM policies and permission failures, configuring budget alerts, investigating security alerts, troubleshooting network connectivity, and using CloudTrail and VPC Flow Logs to diagnose problems. Application Deadlines and Upcoming Opportunities
SC26 Early Bird Registration — Closes October 14; conference November 15–20 in Chicago, IL. SC26 is the premier international conference for high-performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis, bringing together scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, and industry leaders under this year’s theme of “HPC Unites.” Register before October 14 for early bird pricing. NSF AI Datasets Program (NSF 26-512) — Full proposals due November 4. NSF has committed up to $100 million to making existing scientific datasets AI-ready — funding no new data collection, but investing in curation, harmonization, documentation, and machine-readable pipelines that AI tools can analyze automatically. The program anticipates 10–20 Impact awards of up to $2 million, 5–10 Flagship awards of up to $5 million, and 10–20 Planning grants of up to $200,000. Learn more.
NSF State and Regional AI Infrastructure Hubs (NSF 26-513) — Full proposals due November 4. This program supports flexible state and regional consortia bringing together government, research institutions, philanthropy, and the private sector to connect researchers with new computing and data infrastructure, accelerate AI-enabled scientific discovery, and develop a skilled AI workforce. Up to 10 cooperative agreement awards are anticipated, ranging from $4–12M each over five years. Learn more.
