Research Cybersecurity Interest Group (RCsIG)

Goals and Objectives

The Research Cybersecurity Interest Group (RCsIG) will discuss and develop ideas, activities, and recommended practices for action at the intersection of Research Computing and Data (RCD) Facilitation and Research Cybersecurity, with emphasis on blending populations of RCD professionals and cybersecurity professionals working in research environments.

Our Next Call: May 28, 2026

Please join us on Thursday, May 28, 2026, 11:00am to 12:00pm PT (2:00 to 3:00pm ET) for our monthly call, and share with colleagues who may also be interested in attending!

Topic: Secure Data Movement in Research Environments

Guest Speakers: Rachana Ananthakrishnan, Brigitte Raumann – Globus

We tapped into our community for topics of interest and one that bubbled to the surface was data security, so we’ve reached out to our friends at Globus to join us! This session will explore the use of Globus as a foundation for secure, reliable, and policy-aligned data movement in research environments. The presentation will examine how the suite of Globus tools enable predictable, high-performance transfers while integrating with campus authentication, authorization, and data governance frameworks.

Beyond efficient data transfer, the discussion will highlight its role in facilitating secure collaboration across institutional boundaries. Speakers will examine how these capabilities support extramural, controlled data sharing; role-appropriate access across institutions; and reduced administrative burden, while enabling researchers to work effectively with distributed datasets and partners. The session will conclude with an opportunity for dialog with the Globus team about features, use cases or how to adopt inherently-secure Globus-enabled data movement workflows into campus research.

If you already have a V-Card, we recommend that you update it with any new topics you would like to discuss. If you have not yet created a V-Card, please open the link and populate a slide with your name, home institution, role, and a suggested future topic, speaker, or discussion.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the next call!

RCsIG meetings are held monthly on fourth Thursdays at 11am PT.
