We also highlight other gatherings from our RCD ecosystem peers, as these events touch many, if not all, in our community. Supporting Research Computing Beyond Cluster Computing
As the landscape of research computing evolves, the traditional focus on high-performance computing (HPC) clusters is no longer sufficient to meet the diverse and growing needs of researchers. This CaRCC Strategy and Policy call will explore how institutions can broaden their support models to encompass a wider array of computational paradigms, including cloud-native workflows, interactive data science platforms, AI/ML pipelines, edge computing, and domain-specific tools. We will discuss the strategic, organizational, and policy implications of this shift, including workforce development, funding models, partnerships, and the integration of research computing into broader cyberinfrastructure ecosystems. Participants will hear from institutions that are actively expanding their support portfolios and will engage in a community discussion on best practices, challenges, and opportunities for shaping the future of research computing for and beyond the cluster.
