All Things AI March 2025

  1. Video: Deep Dive into LLMs like ChatGPT This is a general audience deep dive into the Large Language Model (LLM) AI technology that powers ChatGPT and related products. It is covers the full training stack of how the models are developed, along with mental models of how to think about their “psychology”, and how to get the best use them in practical applications.Instructor Andrej was a founding member at OpenAI (2015) and then Sr. Director of AI at Tesla (2017-2022), and is now a founder at Eureka Labs, which is building an AI-native school. His goal in this video is to raise knowledge and understanding of the state of the art in AI, and empower people to effectively use the latest and greatest in their work.
  2. NAIRR Pilot Researcher Showcase. March 6, 2025 We welcome several esteemed panelists including Andrew White and Bo Xiao who are specializing in various AI projects who will provide a brief overview of their work and provide information about their motivations, challenges, and engagement with the NAIRR community. Representatives from the NAIRR effort will be on hand to answer questions as well as provide a brief overview. This showcase is for anyone of any skill level who is interested in being involved with NAIRR or AI research and education.
  3. Upcoming CLASS Offerings from Internet2:
  4. Training: ACES: AI/ML on Graphcore IPUs March 18, 2025 This short course (2.5 hours) introduces researchers to Graphcore Intelligence Processing Units (IPUs) on the ACES cluster, a composable accelerator testbed at Texas A&M High Performance Research Computing. The instructor will demonstrate the execution of models from different frameworks on the IPU system, and participants will gain practical experience in converting TensorFlow and PyTorch code into IPU code through hands-on exercises. Prerequisites: Current ACCESS ID; basic Linux/Unix skills; basic understanding of machine learning concepts, neural networks, and deep learning; familiarity with deep learning frameworks TensorFlow and/or PyTorch.
  5. Training: ACES: Introduction to Julia. March 18 This short course covers basic topics in numerical computation and scientific programming using the Julia programming language. This is an introductory course with topics including basic language elements and concepts, best practices in programming, and relevant open source tools.
