Science Policy for Impact in Uncertain Times, Kei Koizumi, former Principal Deputy Director, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy

Kei Koizumi will discuss some of the ways in which he has tried to use science policy tools to achieve impact toward the mission of providing opportunities for people in communities all across America to participate in and benefit from science and engineering, with special attention to the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. He will offer thoughts on the current situation for federal funding of science and try to offer some reasons for optimism in this uncertain time.

This session will feature the CaRCC Systems-Facing steering committee summarizing and reflecting on their favorite sessions, workshops, topics and conversations from the Practice and Experience in Advanced Research Computing (PEARC) conference, held July 20-24 in Columbus, Ohio. Attendees will be invited to share their own takeaways from PEARC or ask questions of those who attended. The session will also provide an opportunity for the Systems-Facing Track Steering Committee to learn which topics are of greatest interest to the community for future exploration in upcoming calls.

All CaRCC People Network calls will take place within a Zoom room communicated via email and visible in the CaRCC People Network Google calendar (see top). Please help us keep these details secure (non-public), but feel free to share with a colleague.
Interested members of the People Network need not subscribe to a particular track to participate in calls. Additional details for track members, including notes documents and any pre-call activities, will be distributed ahead of the call via the email lists and other communication channels within each track.
