A comprehensive report from the 2025 CaRCC Annual Retreat is now publicly available on Zenodo.
Held September 18-20, 2025 in Rosemont, Illinois, this year’s retreat brought together CaRCC leadership during a pivotal transition period for the organization. The report captures the strategic discussions, collaborative problem-solving, and concrete action items that will shape CaRCC’s future as it formalizes into an independent 501(c)(3) organization.
Key highlights from the report include:
- Strong progress on organizational development: The retreat reviewed substantial advancement on 2024 action items, with 16 of 19 showing progress, including completed board formation, established governance structure, and draft bylaws ready for ratification.
- Addressing organizational complexity: Participants acknowledged that CaRCC’s organic growth has created barriers for newcomers who find the organization overwhelming. A new task force will work through September 2026 to simplify CaRCC’s structure and communications, making the community more accessible while preserving its welcoming, volunteer-driven culture.
- Advancing membership and sustainability: The retreat featured extensive discussions on a proposed membership model with individual and institutional tiers, designed to ensure affordable access while creating meaningful value for RCD professionals and supporting long-term organizational sustainability.
- Four strategic task forces launched: New initiatives will address simplifying CaRCC’s structure, defining the scope of the RCD professional community, engaging beyond R-1 institutions, and promoting leadership as professional development opportunities.
