CASC, RDAP, ABRF, GTC and NAIRR Pilot annual meetings recap
We’ll hear from folks who have gone to important spring meetings and conferences: CASC (The Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation), RDAP (Research Data Access & Preservation), ABRF (Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities), GTC (GPU Technology Conference) and NAIRR Pilot annual meeting. We’ve invited a few speakers to do brief talks to make folks aware of the content and interesting discussions that happened at these events. All of these meetings cover important topics for the RCD community, and since attendance at each is somewhat limited we want to share out and discuss what folks heard.
Researcher-Facing Track (2nd Thursdays)
Please join the usual Systems-Facing call on 4/17 for a joint topic! (No call at the regular Researcher-Facing time.)
Emerging Centers Track (3rd Wednesdays)
Wed 4/16, 12p ET/ 11a CT/ 10a MT/ 9a PT
RCD Origin Stories #1: Sarvani Chadalapaka, Research Computing Director, University of California, Merced
We kick off our RCD Origin Stories series with Sarvani Chadalapaka, Research Computing Director at the University of California, Merced. This series, which emerged from discussions started at our PEARC24 Emerging Centers Birds of a Feather (BoF), will build a library of stories about how individual emerging RCD centers got their start, their challenges as they became more established, and how they sustain themselves. As this library grows, the intent is that the community will be able to find common best practices for building and sustaining RCD centers across these origin stories.
Systems-Facing Track (3rd Thursdays)
Thu 4/17, 1p ET/ 12p CT/ 11a MT/ 10a PT
Software Installation Strategies Panel (Joint call with the Researcher-Facing Track)
How do you decide what software you install vs request the researchers to install themselves? What software gets installed centrally vs within the research team’s own environment? When are containers advised in place of module installs? Come join this month’s session to hear the thoughts from our panel on these questions. Please feel free to contribute your own thoughts and or questions into the mix.
