Tue 10/7, 1p ET/ 12p CT/ 11a MT/ 10a PT
Tiger Data @ Princeton, Curtis Hillegas and Elizabeth Holtz

Strategy and Policy-Facing Track (1st Wednesdays)

Wed 10/1, 12p ET/ 11a CT/ 10a MT/ 9a PT
Open Forum to Solicit Upcoming Topics, Community Discussion
In this forum, the Strategy and Policy-Facing Track steering committee would like to hear what topics are of concern to the community for future meetings. We will go over ideas that the leadership team has for the future and solicit feedback from the community.  Bring your thinking caps!

Researcher-Facing Track (2nd Thursdays)

Thu 10/9, 1p ET/ 12p CT/ 11a MT/ 10a PT
Facilitation Across Campus, Community Discussion
In October, we will discuss how institutions are coordinating research services across various compute and data resources available to their research communities. We all have limited funding, increased regulatory compliance, and shifting technology needs that are driving change on our campuses. It’s essential that we improve our resource management to expedite the research process. The Researcher-Facing Steering Committee is still looking for presenters if you would like to share your approach to this unique issue.  Please join the conversation.

Emerging Centers Track (3rd Wednesdays)

Wed 10/15, 12p ET/ 11a CT/ 10a MT/ 9a PT
Getting Started with Grant Writing, Community Discussion
Join us for our first in a series of “Getting Started with…” community discussions focused on all those “How do I get started with…” questions you have as part of an emerging center. Larger RCD organizations have resources to dedicate to specific initiatives, but when you have to wear all the RCD hats, how do you quickly and effectively find the information and tools you need to accomplish core RCD tasks? We’ll start with a short presentation on the basics of preparing a grant proposal and then hear tips, tricks, and best practices from successful (and unsuccessful!) grant awardees.

Systems-Facing Track (3rd Thursdays)

Thu 10/16, 1p ET/ 12p CT/ 11a MT/ 10a PT
Expanding Research Computing to Multiple Data Centers, Presentation
Changing the tires on a moving car? The University at Buffalo recently attempted a similar feat and in this session we share our experience of expanding the campus research computing infrastructure to multiple data centers with minimal downtime. We’ll discuss power/cooling capacity planning, network design, physical moving logistics, multi-site storage, compute node provisioning, and how we lifted full 1600lb racks.  The talk will also provide an overview of the software tools we used, the challenges we faced, and lessons learned. Buckle up for this wild in the trenches tale of how we relocated our research computing infrastructure while keeping the lights on.
Speakers: Andrew E. Bruno, Assistant Director, University at Buffalo CCR; Josh Furlani, Systems Administrator, University at Buffalo CCR
