Monthly Line-Up of People Network Calls

Greetings to all members of the CaRCC People Network!

So that all members of the People Network are aware of calls hosted by our tracks, we are sending out an announcement of all calls scheduled for the month. (Also visible in the CaRCC Events Calendar.)

Data-Facing Track (first Tuesdays, 1pm ET)

Mapping the Research Life Cycle, discussion facilitated by Bart Ragon (UVA) and Yoh Yawano (UCLA)

Tuesday, September 3rd 1p ET/ 12p CT/ 11a MT/ 10a PT

Bart and Yoh will be talking about the different stages of the research life cycle, mapping the stages to different groups at their institutions, and helping us do a similar exercise for our own institutions.  We’ll be discussing how support for research data comes in at multiple stages in the research life cycle and which organizations at our institutions provide that support.

Researcher-Facing Track (second Thursdays, 1pm ET)

A Startup Framework for Building Digital Research Capacity and Community at UCLA, presentation by Annelie Rugg (UCLA)

Thursday, September 12, 1p ET/ 12p CT/ 11a MT/ 10a PT

The story of the UCLA Scholarly Innovation Lab (SIL) is our answer to meeting the needs of the newer entrants to research computing — the arts, humanities, social and information sciences — with modest resources and a vision for a bigger future. I’ll share insights from our successful “startup” and our thoughts on how to manage research technology growth that is sustainable and scalable.

Emerging Centers Track (third Wednesdays, 12pm ET)

First track call!

Wednesday, September 18th 12pm ET/ 11am CT/ 10am MT/ 9a PT

The Emerging Centers track is intended for individuals at newer or under-resourced organizations, and/or those from small institutions, who are developing research CI services. Those interested in joining the track can sign up for the email list in the ‘join’ form, here. On the call, we’ll get to know each other and our organizations, so we can plan for future call discussions based upon results from the survey.

Systems-Facing Track (third Thursdays, 1pm ET)

TBA

Thursday, September 19th 1pm ET/ 12pm CT/ 11am MT/ 10a PT

All calls will take place in a Zoom room (coordinates communicated via email).

Please sign up for the People Network lists (below) to receive emails with the coordinates, or send an email to help@carcc.org if you can’t find them.

Interested members of the People Network need not subscribe to a particular track to participate in calls. Additional details for track members, including notes documents and any pre-call activities, will be distributed ahead of the call via the email lists and other communication channels within each track.

The CaRCC (Campus Research Computing Consortium) People Network, aims “to foster, build and grow an inclusive community (termed the “People Network”) for campus CI, research computing and data professionals.” If you have received this email NOT via CaRCC’s People Network, and you would like to join the People Network, which includes Researcher-facing, Data-facing, Systems-facing, and other tracks, please fill in the form at http://bit.ly/join_carcc_people_network.
