Topic: Persistent Identifiers for Facilities and Instruments – Recommendations from the FAIR Instruments and Facilities Research Coordination Network
The FAIR Instruments and Facilities Research Coordination Network, funded in 2022 by grant awards from the NSF’s Fair and Open Science (FAIROS) program, has worked to advance the standardization and adoption of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) for research facilities and instruments nationally. Through a series of workshops intended to engage various stakeholders in the research and scholarly communications communities, the project team has developed a set of recommendations that build on previous work in the space (e.g., RRIDs, or Research Resource Identifiers) to help clarify and generalize current practices and principles around PID design and application. These recommendations have been developed with an eye toward achieving tangible outcomes for open science.
During our November call, we’ll hear from representatives of the FAIR Instruments and Facilities Research Coordination Network to learn more about the project and some of the key details of their recommendations.
