Title: Beyond the Business Case: Universally Designing the Workplace for Neurodiversity and Inclusion
Presenter(s): Elisabeth Silver, Rice University
Description: In recent years, organizations have begun to recognize the importance of equal employment opportunities and experiences for those across the neurodiversity spectrum. This talk will provide an overview of the neurodiversity movement and its potential impacts in the workplace. Following a brief overview of the neurodiversity movement, we will discuss strategies for ensuring that neurodivergent employees are not only represented at work, but also feel that they are valued members of their workplace. Drawing from principles of universal design, we will discuss changes to the workplace that could benefit all employees, regardless of where they fall on the neurodiversity spectrum.
Presenter: Elisabeth Silver is fourth-year doctoral student and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow in Industrial-Organizational (IO) Psychology at Rice University. Her research broadly focuses on diversity and discrimination, with particular emphasis on neurodiversity in the workplace and resistance to organizational diversity efforts. Elisabeth holds a B.S. from the University of Michigan and an M.A. from Rice University.
